ACTION: Insecticide.
USE: For use in fruits, cotton, soybeans, vegetables, and other field crops.
FORMULATIONS: Liquid, low volatility liquid, water-soluble powder.
PREMIX PARTNERS: Chlorpyrifos; Diflubenzuron; Endosulfan; Pheromone.

Identification

COMMON NAME: Methomyl (ANSI, ISO, BSI, JMAF, ESA).

Chemistry

COMPOSITION: S-methyl N-[(methylcarbamoyl)oxy]thioacetimidate(1).
CLASS: Carbamate.
PROPERTIES: White crystalline solid, with slightly sulfurous odor. Melting point 78-79℃. Solubility in ethanol, 42 g/100 g; in methanol, 100 g/100 g. Soluble in ethanol, 42 g/100 g; in methanol, 100 g/100 g.

Environmental Guidelines

HAZARDS: Fish: Toxic. LC50 3.4 mg/l (96 h) (rainbow trout) 0.8 mg/l (bluegill). Bee: Highly toxic.
SOIL PARTICLE ADSORPTION: Half-life of 3-5 days following leaf application.
WATER SOLUBILITY: 5.8 g/100 g.

Safety Guidelines

TOXICITY: (Rat): Oral LD50 30 mg/kg (female), 34 mg/kg (male). (Rabbit): Dermal LD50 >2000 mg/kg. Inhalation (4 h), 0.3 mg/l.
HANDLING/STORAGE: Liquid concentrate may be fatal if swallowed; poisonous if inhaled. Do not breathe dust or spray mist. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Liquid formulations are flammable. Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flame. Do not subject liquid to temperatures below 32℃. Store in original container only. Discarded product is a hazardous waste under RCRA regulations.
