Action / Use
ACTION: Plant Growth Regulator.
USE: For apples, barley, blackberries, bromeliads, cantaloupe, cherries, coffee, cotton, cucumbers, grapes, guava, macadamias, ornamentals, peppers, pineapple, rye, squash, sugarcane, tobacco, tomatoes, walnuts, wheat, etc.
FORMULATIONS: Aqueous solution, liquid concentrate.
PREMIX PARTNERS: AMADS; Chlormequat Chloride; Cyclanilide; Mepiquat Chloride.

Identification

COMMON NAME: Ethephon (ANSI).

Chemistry

COMPOSITION: 2-Chloroethyltrimethylammonium chloride.
PROPERTIES: Tech: Solid, yellowish; very hygroscopic crystals. Solubility at 20℃ in ethanol 320 g/kg. Density at 20℃: 1.14-1.15 g/ml.COMPOSITION: (2-chloroethyl)phosphonic acid .
PROPERTIES: Soluble in short-chain alcohols, glycols; sparingly soluble in nonpolar organic solvents; insoluble in kerosene and diesel oil; stable under pH ?/sym>3.


Environmental Guidelines

HAZARDS: Fish: LC50 720 mg/l (rainbow trout); 180 mg/l (bluegill). Bird: LD50 1072 mg/kg (bobwhite quail); LD50 1998 mg/kg (mallard duck). Bee: Nontoxic.
WATER SOLUBILITY: Readily soluble, 1 kg/l at 23℃.

Safety Guidelines

TOXICITY: (Rat): Oral LD50 3030 mg/kg. (Rabbit): Dermal LD50 1560 mg/kg. Skin irritant, serious eye irritant.
SPILL CONTROL/CLEANUP: Large spillages should be dammed-off and pumped into containers; soak up remainder with absorbent material and dispose of in accordance with local regulations.
PRODUCT/WASTE DISPOSAL: Must be disposed of by special means, e.g., suitable incineration, in accordance with local regulations.

Emergency Guidelines

FIRST AID: Get medical aid. Eyes: flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Ingestion: may cause mucosal damage; do not induce vomiting.
